The Media

 

Examine the press, students gather information, look for various points of view and gain insight into historical events. By analyzing newspaper articles, students are able to gain an understanding of how people think about a given situation or event at a given time. The use of multimedia is yet another source of information on a specific event.

Teachers may access articles from the same time period (1933) in Canada, or current media articles on the same topic and compare the attitudes to events. Gathering important facts about the situation as stated by the press, students can look for evidence of bias in these renditions.
