KONTAKT TV NEXT GEN: Leadership Series and Shkilna Rada present HREC Director of Education Valentina Kuryliw speaking on the Holodomor and why we need to continue the discourse, 20 November 2021 at 11am EST.
The NEXT GEN: Leadership Series, a collaboration between the Ukrainian School Board UCC-Toronto (in Ukrainian called the “Shkilna Rada”) and KONTAKT TV, invited Valentina Kuryliw to present a virtual PowerPoint presentation and video screening to commemorate the Holodomor on the topic of the Holodomor and why we need to continue the discourse. The informational presentation was created for senior students in Ukrainian schools across Canada. Soon after, a version edited for television was publicly broadcast during the NEXT GEN series’ regular programming with Host Alexandra Holyk. Kuryliw provided students with reasons why they should be interested in studying the Holodomor and encouraged them to speak out in their regular school classrooms to ensure the Holodomor is taught in various classes in their curriculum. Students prepared questions in their classrooms with their teachers ahead of time to ask during the Q&A period that followed Kuryliw’s presentation, which held a lively discussion. Students themselves were interested why the Holodomor is not taught in their regular school classrooms at this date and asked about the process for how it might get into the curriculum. The presentation was in Ukrainian with English text in the PowerPoint presentation.
