Launch of April 16 Holodomor Remembrance Day in Schools – Special Online Webinar

Throughout the year, HREC Education promotes interactive and multidisciplinary approaches in its educational and community workshops and presentations. In 2021, during the annual April Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month, the inaugural launch of the April 16thHolodomor Remembrance Day in Schools was celebrated with a special online presentation by HREC Director of Education Valentina Kuryliw, who also is Chair of UCC’s National Holodomor Education Committee (NHEC–UCC). The presentation discussed the importance of this day in April annually, and specifically for educational purposes. This inaugural launch date also featured a screening of former National Film Board of Canada Director Ariadna Ochrymovych’s award-winning film Holodomor: Voices of Survivors, a 30-minute documentary short with moving firsthand accounts of 25 Canadian survivors who share their stories of experiencing the Holodomor as children. The event was hosted by UCC CEO and Executive Director Ihor Mychalchyshyn.
